Blazing head

While he plots to conquer the human world, Dormammu is surprised that the Ancient One would delegate a mere disciple to confront him in his domain. When the stranger asks him to stay away from his world, Dormammu replies that he will have to defeat him first. An epic battle begins and Dormammu has the upper hand until the Mindless Ones try to invade his domain and he is forced to deal with the new threat. But his power is not enough to repel them all and Doctor Strange helps him set up the barrier. Indebted, Dormammu agrees to release the woman he captured and to stay away from his world.

Having given his word he would not attack Dr. Strange, Dormammu grants Mordo limitless powers so he can do it in his stead. Soon, Dormammu grows weary of Mordo's failures. When Mordo finally gloats of his victory to Dormammu, the dreaded one replies that Strange simply escaped to another dimension. Learning from a wraith that Strange was back, traveling in his ectoplasmic form, Dormammu sends Mordo and his wraith after him, in the hopes to conquer the Earth after the magician is dead. When the Mindless Ones are set loose in the Dark Dimension, Dormammu is forced to interrupt his power support to handle the matter. Depleted of his powers after pushing them back across the protective barrier, he tells Mordo that he is on his own until he's fully restored.

Dormammu discovers who was responsible for freeing the Mindless Ones. He captures the treacherous girl so that she will be witness to Dr. Strange's demise. Mordo informs him that Strange is looking for Eternity. Dormammu orders him to kill Strange before he learns about Eternity. Although the magician has managed to meet Eternity, Mordo has abducted the Ancient One and Dormammu. When Strange arrives at Mordo's sanctuary, Dormammu learns that Eternity has given him nothing. Then he decides to wake the Ancient One from his coma so that he can see Strange's defeat. As the fight begins, Dormammu forces the girl to watch. Then the fight begins, and Mordo asks for more and more power from Dormammu as he gets closer to victory. But Strange's clever tricks anger his opponent and make him reckless, so Dormammu decides to take over. He sends Strange, Mordo and the Ancient One to a neutral dimension where he challenges Dr. Strange in a physical duel where their only weapons will be the Pincers of Death. As Strange gains the advantage, Mordo decides to act and takes him down with a spell. Angry at Mordo for this unwanted intervention, Dormammu exiles him to the Dimension of Demons. Dr. Strange then convinces his opponent to resume the fight and defeats him. The magician forces the loser to make an oath to never turn his power against Earth. But in retaliation, Dormammu informs Strange as he exiles the Dark Dimension girl who befriended him to a place he will never find her.

Asti the All-Seeing reports to Dormammu that the Ancient One approaches the outer reaches of cosmic infinity in his search for the exiled girl. Dormammu orders him to set a trap for Dr. Strange. Then he contacts Tazza on the edges of infinity, pretending that Dr. Strange is on his way to his kingdom to destroy him. Soon, Asti comes back to inform him that their plan to have Tazza destroy Dr. Strange has failed.

Mad for the humiliation inflicted by a mortal, Dormammu elaborates a scheme to lure Dr. Strange to a Nether Dimension where his vows don't apply. While Eternity slumbers, Dormammu casts a spell binding him in his subcosmos. When Dr. Strange falls into his trap and arrives in the Nether Dimension, he breaks Dormammu's hold on Eternity who comes out of his resting place. Offended that Dormammu has dared to lock him up, Eternity decides to deal with the evildoer himself. As they clash in a cosmic struggle, Eternity vanishes and Dormammu is crushed between colliding spheres that disintegrate in the impact.
