He wonders about the upcoming fight between Thundra and the Thing, and decides Thundra has the better chance of winning.
Peter Parker is living with his aunt and uncle who love him dearly. After getting bitten by a radioactive spider during a science exhibit, he realizes that he has spider-like abilities and proportionate strength and starts using them for personal gain. One night, Uncle Ben is murdered by a crook that Peter could have stopped and the young man realizes that if he acted responsibly, his uncle would still be alive.
Peter learns that his black suit did not die, and has bonded with Eddie Brock, who blames Parker for his career failures. Using the name Venom, Brock Attacks Mary Jane. Spider-Man manages to defeat Venom, locking him up in the custody of the Fantastic Four.
In the aftermath of Uncle Ben's murder, Peter struggles with financial issues. In addition, J. Jonah Jameson is giving him very bad press. When Jameson's son John is in trouble piloting a space capsule, Spider-Man saves his life by commandeering a plane and leaping to the capsule to replace its malfunctioning guidance unit. Next day, Jameson publicly accuses him of sabotaging the capsule.
Still struggling for money, Peter attacks the Fantastic Four to prove he's worthy to join them but he leaves when they explain that they don't have salaries. Using his Spider Senses for the first time, Spider-Man gets a message that lures him to the top of a building where he gets framed for stealing defense plans. He catches the Chameleon and brings him to the police with the stolen plans.
To earn some money, Peter starts taking pictures of villains. After ending up trapped by the Vulture inside a water tower he upgrades his belt with containers for extra cartridges of web-fluid. Spider-Man defeats the Vulture thanks to a device he invented earlier. Ironically, Peter decides to sell his picture to Spider-Man hater J. Jonah Jameson who is impressed of his photos of the Vulture's arrest and even gives him a bonus.
Spider-Man officially begins his crime-fighting career by delivering a group of thieves to the police. Sent to take photos by J. Jonah Jameson, he discovers that Doctor Octopus has gone mad. Easily beaten by the doctor, Peter takes his first defeat very badly until he hears an inspiring speech from the Human Torch. Cheered up, Spider-Man defeats Octopus by fusing his mechanical arms together with a chemical. Then he leads the sentry to the captured villain with his new Spider Signal.
Spider-Man meets Sandman as he tries to stop him running away from the police but the villain's ability to turn his body to sand makes him unseizable. Next day, at his school, Spider-Man finds his foe threatening Principal Davis. After a long battle, he takes advantage of his opponent's ability and entraps him into a vacuum cleaner while he is in his sand form.
As Peter delivers some photos to J. Jonah Jameson, he tells his boss that people are beginning to question his motives for discrediting Spider-Man. Jameson's secretary sides with him on the matter and he suddenly realizes how pretty Betty is.
Spider-Man is framed for the theft of a Da Vinci painting. He seeks the help of the Human Torch but the flaming hero is convinced he is guilty and tries to stop him. After some explaining, Johnny thinks it over then finally accepts to team up. Together, they catch the Fox who was behind the frame-up and they clear Spidey's name.
Challenged in a headline of the Daily Bugle, Spider-Man is forced to travel to Florida where he meets the Lizard for the first time. Using his brain where his brawn has failed, Peter Parker finds an antidote to cure Dr. Connors from his unfortunate transformation so he can stop terrorizing the Everglades.
After dealing with the Vulture who tried to steal the Daily Bugle's payroll, Peter Parker enjoys a romantic moment sitting side-by-side on the floor with Betty Brant, exchanging kind words.
To pay for a surgery to save Aunt May, Spider-Man tries to get the reward for capturing Electro but the villain knocks him out with an electric blast. Parker fakes some photos confirming that Electro is Spider-Man to meet Jameson's request and earns the money necessary for May's operation that turns out successful. When Electro is trying to break criminals out of a prison, Spider-Man stops him by short-circuiting him with water.
Peter discovers that Betty Brant is involved in some racket when the Enforcers approach her to collect money from her on behalf of the Big Man. Later, Spider-Man defeats the Enforcers and their crime syndicate network in their hideout with the help of the police. Then at the Daily Bugle, Peter witnesses the arrest of columnist Frederick Foswell after the police found proof that he is the Big Man.
Doctor Octopus is released from prison and Parker designs his Spider-Tracer to keep track of him. To his surprise, the driver picking him up is Betty Brant. Peter finds her in Philadelphia and she confesses that she drove Octopus there to release her brother Bennett from a debt. Spider-Man traces the villains to a getaway boat where they are holding Betty and her brother hostage. A stray bullet meant for the hero hits Bennett and Betty blames Spider-Man for his death. Doctor Octopus escapes, but the police picks up the rest of the gang.
Back in New York, Doctor Octopus captures Betty again to lure Spider-Man. Sick with a virus, the hero is easily knocked out by the villain. Octopus unmasks him in front of Betty and Jameson who conclude that Parker could not find the real hero and took his place to save her. Next day, Spidey tackles the villain who gets trapped in a blazing building and taken away by the police.
Learning that Spider-Man has been committing crimes, Peter starts doubting himself but it is all part of a trap set by Mysterio who defeats him atop the Brooklyn Bridge Next day, Mysterio is acclaimed but Spider-Man tracks him down and they resume the battle. After defeating Mysterio in a TV studio, Spider-Man brings the villain to the authorities with recorded proof that clears his name.
Spider-Man accepts to play in a movie in New Mexico where he has to fight the Enforcers and the Green Goblin but he soon discovers that it is a trap set by the Goblin whom he faces for the first time. The battle takes them into a cave where he easily defeats the Enforcers. But the place is also the Hulk's cave and Spider-Man prefers to escape the monster's attack.
Kraven the Hunter attacks Spider-Man to add him to his list of victories and uses a potion to give him the shakes. Next night, despite this new handicap and Kraven's numerous traps, Spider-Man unmasks the Chameleon who was posing as a second Kraven. Then he catches the real Hunter in his web.
Seeing that a circus is advertising a charity show featuring him, Spider-Man decides make an appearance. That night, he falls under the same hypnotic trance as the audience and the Ringmaster orders him to attack Daredevil who seems impervious to his mind control. Daredevil releases the web-crawler from his trance. They team up and defeat the Circus of Crime.
Spider-Man faces the threat of Doctor Octopus, Electro, the Vulture, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio who have teamed up to form the Sinister Six. After the Sandman and Electro have kidnapped Aunt May and Betty Brant, Parkers learns that he must face each villain individually to get to the location of his next adversary. After defeating each of them, the hero is able to free his aunt and his girlfriend from Octopus's castle and the villains end up in jail.
The Green Goblin attacks Spider-Man during the first meeting of his new local fan club. Hearing that Aunt May just had a heart attack, he flees the fight, making everyone think he is a coward. May recovers after a surgery and gives Peter a speech that unknowingly changes his mind about quitting crime-fighting. A month later, Spider-Man proves to the world that he is not a coward by saving the Human Torch from Sandman and the Enforcers who took him prisoner. At the Daily Bugle, Peter meets Betty's new boyfriend, reporter Ned Leeds.
Peter suspects that someone has been tailing him and discovers he was hired by Jameson. Spider-Man is attacked and defeated by the Scorpion near the Daily Bugle. Then when the villain crashes into Jameson's office to kill the editor, the hero steps in, tears the Scorpion's tail off, and finishes him up.
Spider-Man thwarts the plans of what appears to be aliens led by a traitor called the Tinkerer who uses the cover of his repair shop to bug the radios of important people to spy on them. He is dismayed to find a mask worn by the Tinkerer.

When the Human Torch loses popularity due to the Rabble Rouser's speeches, Spider-Man tries to share his experience to him but Johnny sends him off.
Realizing that someone has tricked them to fight each other, Giant-Man and the Wasp join forces with Spider-Man to capture Egghead while he is robbing a bank.
He swings past the Falcon while fleeing from the police. Later, Spidey sees him kidnapping Harry and confronts him. He easily wins the ensuing fight and places a Spidey Tracer on the Falcon.
Spidey searches the Falcon, finds him kidnapped and saves him. He later aids in the attack on Stoneface.
Having spotted a robot copy of himself, Spider-Man follows it to Mexico where he disables it and saves the Avengers.
Just when Peter wants to confess everything to his love Gwen, he is attacked by the Prowler. After the fight he returns to her apartment only to find Gwen has moved out. He chases after her, only to watch her plane taking off.
After reminiscing about becoming Spider-Man, Peter visits Aunt May. When she gets taken hostage by the Beetle he swings into action, rescuing her.
After crossing path with Doris Evans, Peter is warned by Johnny Storm to stay away from his girlfriend. Paying a visit to Doris as Spider-Man to have some fun at the Torch's expense, he is attacked by the Beetle who manages to kidnap the girl. While he goes after him, he gets into a fight with the Human Torch who is convinced that he's the culprit but Spidey leads them to the Beetle and Doris, and together they capture the villain.
Peter is visiting State University to see if he would like to enroll after high school. But when he meets with the Thing and the Human Torch, Johnny's arrogance towards him convinces him that he will not attend this college.

Spider-Man keeps an eye on the Circus of Crime and has them arrested again when they steal paintings from an art exhibition organized by J. Jonah Jameson.
Spider-Man gets caught in a dispute between the Green Goblin and Lucky Lobo on the leadership of the city's underground racket business. He rounds up Lobo and his gang and hands them over to the police. Peter gets suspicious of Frederick Foswell, formerly know as the Big Man, who's just been hired by Jameson as a reporter.
Mysterio uses several ruses to plant the idea that Spider-Man is losing his mind, which leads the hero to doubt his own sanity, but an unexpected interference from Jameson allows the hero to see through the fraud.
When Spider-Man is attacked by the Spider-Slayer, a robot controlled by Jameson, Parker's knowledge of science allows him to disable the machine. Later, Peter is confronted by Aunt May who has found his extra Spider-Man outfit in his bedroom and confiscates it.
While he is unable to recover any of his Spider-Man costumes, Peter decides to investigate on Foswell, suspicious that he still can't be trusted. This leads him in the middle of a dispute between the Crime-Master and the Green Goblin who are fighting for the control of New York's underworld. Despite a bad quality suit, bought in a costume shop and too loose for him, Spider-Man is able to help the police gather the mob during their meeting. Later, he barges in Jameson's office to try and convince him that Foswell is either the Crime-Master or the Green Goblin, but he realizes that he is wrong when the police arrive to thank Foswell for his help in their major operation and the reporter finally reveals the identity of the Crime-Master.
Peter is surprised when Principal Davis tells him that Flash finally confessed that he was not at fault for their recent fight. He later recovers his costume during a visit at Mr. Smythe's house where he witnesses the incident who turned lab assistant Raxton into the Molten Man. Spider-Man tracks the thief to his house where he is able to capture him and deliver him to the police. Shortly after, Peter finally graduates from high school with a science scholarship for his college education.
Spider-Man and Doctor Strange team up against Xandu who plans to steal the second half of the Wand of Watoomb from Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum.
On Reed Richards and Sue Storm's wedding day at Baxter Building, where the Fantastic Four are attacked by several of their old foes, Spider-Man saves Hawkeye by catching a falling safe in his web. While the battle rages on, Reed Richards uses a machine that transports all their enemies back to the recent past with no memory of what occurred.
