Issue Notes
Placement Notes
There are several major chronology problems with this issues placement that are unresolvable. To keep from breaking this issue up into page by page / panel by panel chronology, as other sites do, we placed this issue directly after Fantastic Four (v1) #26. However the actual pace of events is much more complex. The beginning of this issue immediately follows from Fantastic Four #26. The middle of the issue is interspaced with events in Tales to Astonish and Tales of Suspense And the remainder of the issue immediately proceeds into Avengers (v1) #6 with a short stop back into Tales of SuspenseThe Marvel Saga and the Chronology Project both solve this problem by splitting Avengers #5 into multiple parts. Here is how they handle it.Immediately after the end of the Hulk's battle against the Avengers and the Fantastic Four (Fantastic Four #25-26), the Avengers return to their mansion and look over the damage done during the fight there with the Hulk (opening of Avengers #5).Shortly afterwards, Iron Man meets the Black Widow and the second Crimson Dynamo (Tales of Suspense #52), and Giant-Man and the Wasp travel to a Latin American country to deal with the dictator called El Toro (Tales to Astonish #54)...... Giant-Man and the Wasp again combat the Human Top (Tales to Astonish #55)...... and then Giant-Man and the Wasp have their encounters with the criminal called the Magician (Tales to Astonish #56).Next the Black Widow returns to plague Iron Man once again (Tales of Suspense #53).The Avengers then battle the Lava Men (Avengers #5), and immediately afterwards return to New York to fight the Masters of Evil (Avengers #6). (During the journey to New York, Iron Man dons his new helmet.)...... Then Iron Man has his first rematch with the Mandarin (Tales of Suspense #54-55).
