Who is going to notice Johnny but did not notice the rocket that just fell through the atmosphere and crashed into the ground?

3 stars for Marvel pushing the First Family to the masses!!!
Cover Me - Red covers always increase the tension!!!
Snow Bunny - Awe, the Thing looks cute in his toboggan hat!!
The Other Guys - The FF were second on the Avengers list as the Teen Brigade were already on a mission!!!
Trade Secret - I guess Black Panther was okay giving Reed enough vibranium to baffle the vibrations from the rocket?!
Keener - Geez, like others, I hope Vindicator made it back, okay?!
Splash - Great shot of the crystal tower rising!!!
'Nuff Said - "That must be what's causing my skin to tingle!" - Sexy Sue

The Fantastic Four find themselves powerless but learn that everybody else is too. Wasn't really a big fan of this. It felt like an Annual - full of padding and not really connected to anything else. It also spent time introducing the different members of The Fantastic Four and then retelling their origin. And I know that this was intended for an audience that didn't necessarily know them, resulting in the intro being necessary. Doesn't make me like it more. Byrne's art is pretty good, but not really enough. Two stars.
This was one of several stories commissioned for a promotional Coke giveaway: you bought bottles of Coke and got a free Marvel comic. There was a Hulk story, a Fantastic Four story and a Spider-Man story all completed. There were plans for three additional Star Wars stories. Coke nixed the project because the stories were "too violent". Per Byrne: "Coca-Cola seemed to deem anything much beyond the characters sitting around drinking Coke to be too "violent"". The completed stories were all ultimately repurposed as Annuals or regular stories by adding a couple of extra pages.
I liked the cabbie being concerned about insurance. Insurance premiums must be insane in the Marvel Universe. And then it's not a villain but The Thing himself who wreaks the cab. I also thought The Thing looked pretty far away from the crane. The Human Torch could have flown through the door, but that wouldn't have looked as cool as flying through the ceiling. Why would the President have The Avengers relay his desire to have Reed investigate? Wouldn't he contact them directly? But that wouldn't allow for an Avengers cameo. The origin The Thing is remembering isn't the origin I remember: no beating the Russians to space and only Ben was worried about Cosmic Rays. Compelling ending.

How did Ben get to the sidewalk to catch the falling rig in time because it looked way further away than just getting to the sidewalk?

Hey Vindicator, have you noticed the giant fours on the ICBM? It should at least tip you off to who might be related to that craft. Might be a villain so asking is still good, but unidentified is maybe not the best word.

The interaction with the surrounding world made this even better. Playing on the expansion of the world.

If the world lost power for a couple minutes there would definitely be deaths. Submarines, planes, automobiles

I find it amusing that we were just shown several instances of people who would have died if not in close proximity to an off-the-job super hero. This suggests that every construction site, window washer, and mid-flight aircraft on the entire planet was also conveniently saved by a super hero who just happened to be nearby.

The story itself was okay... Honestly what I am enjoying is seeing how expanding the marvel universe has become throughout the years, in this one issue you have:
-The taxi driver worried about "Villains attacking him while ben is the back, because he isn't covered"
-Calling Avengers for information
-Vindicator representing the Canada government making sure passage is okay.

Three stars. It would have been four, but I deducted a star for another retelling of the origin.

Another Byrne fan here. Even with a kind of ridiculous story, he tells and draws one of the better FF stories in some time.

Worst summary ever:
Best FF story in some time. Even if it was a little corny, it felt logical.

Another fairly pedestrian story, but the storytelling is top notch. Slow and methodically paced, the idea of the world ending caries tension and gravity. Execution is always the name of the game, sports fans. Though Byrne has yet to take full these reigns, I see what people like about him already. I eagerly await this writing style full time.

Tick.
Claremont is writing X-men and Byrne is drawing it.
Tick.
Miller is writing and drawing Daredevil.
Tick.
Byrne is writing and drawing Fantastic Four. Not a perfect start, but still good.
The Second Great Marvel Age is coming.
Three stars.

decent issue but for there to be a brief worldwide blackout, its hard to believe that they would go to those extremes that quick.

I wonder how often Ben has the "origin story" daydream?

Nice little mystery brewing here. I'm guessing that it ends up being benevolent aliens ("Sorry, we're just looking for something, we didn't mean to screw up your planet!") Though you have to wonder how they all landed there without tipping off Canadian air space like the FF's pogo plane did.
3 stars. Hey, how did they get to the North Pole? Simple: go to the South Pole, then pick any direction.

Some of the dialogue was atrocious, but the overall story was solid.

This might have been a tolerable issue, had it come in 1968.
