I really like Storm and Forges relationship idk why, just do. Storm feels like shes been depowered for so long its kinda crazy how used to it I am. Just goes to show how strong of a character she is that she doesnt need powers to still be so interesting. Thats why she is THE icon

oooh yeah this is going to lead to one of the storylines I've been looking forward to.

Forge's guilt over creating the weapon that depowered Storm feels parallel to Tony Stark's guilt in the beginning of Armor Wars over the misuse of his technology. Only here it lands much better since Forge made an active choice to sell his technology to the people who used it on Storm, whereas Tony's tech was stolen so his guilt feels overwrought.

I wish the cover was different. The impact of seeing the Forge in that state would have had been stronger.

Love Forge and Ororo's 'will they wont they' relationship so far. The eagle comparison of Storm and Forge's situation was a great start to the issue, really. Naze's creepy smile in the last panel most definitely had me on the edge of my seat, wracking my brains for what his true intentions are. Guess I'll find out in the next issue! (Hopefully) Wonderful damn art as always.

Trying to imagine that cover in a spinner rack in 1987.

- just a grown man having a tantrum with his hand knives because he wants to be alone. Wonder if their conversation is indicative of editorial vs. CC regarding Logan? CC wants him to grow & change and editorial promotes a perpetual stagnation in the name of what works
- Having definitively read all of Forge's appearances so far I remember always feeling like I missed an important issue, arc that featured him more prominently to account for the prominence given (I hadn't)
- back when I first read this I assumed the last panel foretold Mojo. But, I also gave it very little thought because knowing Claremont it could be years until we find out

Worst summary ever:

Certainly one of the weaker chapters of the X-books in this era, but against nearly anything at the time, it was head and shoulders above. I had ZERO idea where this was going at the time, but certainly Claremont was all about laying clues throughout books to connect forward AND backward at the time. Masterful from that perspective.

I remember reading this back in the day and was intrigued then as much as go2shaw is at the time of his comment. Knowing what comes now, this is even more exciting. Big changes for the X-Men coming up...

Wolverine is finally in the leader's seat despite his protestations. Something he had been fighting since his Alpha Flight days...

Solid issue moving things along at a pace I have grown to love from Claremont. Silvestri's art is a little weak in some pages but over all still good figure work and facial expressions.

I have to agree, this Storm-without-powers thing has gone on for too long. Think it's close to 3 years real time now; never saw anything like this go on for so long before. This is what you get for not checking up on Forge, Storm!

I guess the natives are restless lately. Any native American who chooses the white man's world is being hounded by an elder with still-existing ties to the old days. I see that parallel with Puma in the Spider-Man mags, too. Is Marvel seeking to make these elders into villains?

3 stars. UXM now seems to be merely above average instead of the powerhouse it was. However, it's still a good title and Claremont hasn't lost his penchant for character development.

That cover was REALLY creepy..

I didn't get why the eagle changed to a robot though.

Seems like a parallel to Forge leaving his spiritual ways behind to fight in Vietnam, where he lost some parts and had to get robotic/prosthetics.

You saw the female eagle had a mohawk, right?

That last panel, though...

I was wondering when CC would find his way back to this thread.

I am glad to see the storyline turn back to Forge. This ended up being a slow story, but look forward to where it is headed.

And the build up continues. I wonder how it felt to read this at the time, without knowing what would happen.

Speaking as someone who does NOT know what's coming, I can tell you I was tracking with what was happening until the last panel which confused/intrigued me. Looking forward with excitement to seeing what happens next...

-Pretty much a catch up/clip show issue, but I'm conjuring up an extra star for that sinister last panel.
