Review of
Thor (1966) #162
7/10 - Asgardian's Big Brother Screen, Peeking Galactus's Past.
The issue, more than a filler, feels like a transition to conclude the previous story arc and its subplots, while also giving a quick peek at Galactus' origin. However, contrary to what the character deserves, what is shown is far from epic or transcendental. In fact, it's closer to an ordinary or mundane origin than anything else. Fortunately, this will change in the coming years.
Regarding the Rigelians, I'm starting to have a soft spot for them and for the Recorder. I liked the touching moment of Thor standing up against the Recorder's deactivation.
It's an entertaining, slow-paced, and reflective read with the usual Kirby's great art and splash pages. Two new subplots begin, with Balder's affliction and Sif's mysterious departure to Earth, which keeps me wanting to know more.
This series has improved a lot in the past issues and is among the best, on par with Spider-Man and Fantastic Four. Thor has more room to be part of interesting plots and to show all his powers, staying outside the Earth rather than being enclosed in it.
